LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

The Illinois Legislature returns to Springfield today for the start of the 2013 Spring Session. The Senate will be in Session February 5th – 7th. After canceling next Thursday’s Session, the House will only be in Session February 5th and 6th. The Governor will deliver the State of the State Address on Wednesday, February 6th at noon. It is expected that the Governor will use this opportunity to begin to outline some of his policy goals for the coming year. The remainder of his initiatives will be revealed during the Budget Address on March 6th. The coming week will be dominated by committee hearings, bill introductions and the Governor’s speech WHICH IS SURE TO INCLUDE AMPLE PENSION BASHING AND SQUEEZY REFERENCES.

At this time, there are over 2,400 bills filed. Two weeks remain until the Senate bill introduction deadline and a little over three weeks remain until the House bill filing deadline.
